Artist's Description
Painted on a Masa paper (Japanese rice paper) surface, this giant balloon clown would happily grace a child's room with his smiling face surrounded by colorful cascades of flowers! (This painting took me completely out of my comfort zone! The "crinkles" on the finished Masa paper were accompanied by unexpected purple polka dots, which were not going to work well with the delicate flower I had intended to paint. The more I looked at the paper, the more clearly I "saw" a big-bellied inflatable clown surrounded by flowers. I seldom do a painting without a clear mental image, at the very least, of my end result, so making it up as I went along was very uncomfortable. However, it was a good learning experience for me, and kind of fun in a stressful sort of way! :-))
About Barbara Jewell
I have been seriously involved in watercolor painting for the last 20 years following retirement from my public school teaching career. Having the time to paint, along with the freedom from the need to make a living at the same time, has opened many wonderful new opportunities, friendships and experiences for me. I am a frequent exhibitor in art shows at the local, regional, state and national levels, having been honored to receive numerous awards for my work. My painting style is realistic. I am drawn to detail and favor the use of vivid color. I enjoy painting a variety of subject matter, but the glorious world of nature is what seems to suit me best. Many of my paintings reflect time spent outdoors, especially in the mountains...
