Trees, blue sky, and shadows in the early spring snow across from the entrance to 7 Springs Mountain Resort in Champion, PA
I have been seriously involved in watercolor painting for the last 20 years following retirement from my public school teaching career. Having the time to paint, along with the freedom from the need to make a living at the same time, has opened many wonderful new opportunities, friendships and experiences for me. I am a frequent exhibitor in art shows at the local, regional, state and national levels, having been honored to receive numerous awards for my work. My painting style is realistic. I am drawn to detail and favor the use of vivid color. I enjoy painting a variety of subject matter, but the glorious world of nature is what seems to suit me best. Many of my paintings reflect time spent outdoors, especially in the mountains...

Tony Clark
This is so realistic. Your use of light and depiction of shadows is beyond comparison.
Barbara Jewell replied:
Thanks again, Tony, for your gracious comments. It is affirming to know that others appreciate realism!
Donna MacLure
What type of paper do you use to get such crisp color?
Barbara Jewell replied:
Thanks, Donna, for leaving the first comment on this piece. I use Arches cold pressed paper, 140lb., on the smoother side...nothing special.
